What is your cause and how will it make the world kinder?

Provide a weeklong summer camp and yearround community for children whose parents have had cancer, are in remission from cancer, or have passed away from cancer

How will you use the $10k?

$10K would let us bring ten more kids to camp ($1000 a head) while keeping camp free for our families, many of whom are still paying off their medical bills

What impact do you hope to make?

We are trying to create a week of magic, fun, and support, not only to these children, but also to their families and to the students who volunteer their time

Camp Kesem Stanford

Camp Kesem is a free, one-week overnight summer camp for children in the Bay Area from grades 2-11 who have a parent who is currently in treatment for cancer, is in remission for cancer, or has died from cancer. A secular camp that is open to all children regardless of race, religion, national origin, or financial status, Camp Kesem provides campers and their families with the unique opportunity to build friendships and gain strength from peers facing similar challenges. Living in a home impacted by cancer puts a tremendous emotional and financial strain on the entire family, and children in these homes can often feel overlooked or unable to express their emotions. Further, these children often feel isolated from their peers at school and are therefore left voiceless during a highly traumatic time. Camp Kesem strives to increase the self-esteem of these campers and create a supportive, loving community for their families while providing a magical week of fun and bonding . Given the financial burden that these families have had to endure, we strive to keep camp free for all of our families, which means nearly all of our budgeted $160,000 goes toward paying to send these kids to camp for another year. With an additional $10,000, we would be able to pay for 10 kids to go to camp, including room and board, activities, meals, and supplies.

Every month, KIND supports one cause with $10,000
